50% Picpoul & 50% Roussanne from the Languedoc, France.
Picpoul might just be my favorite white wine grape & I unapologetically sing its praises at any & every opportunity to literally everyone! Headhunters in New Guinea & lost tribes in the Amazon have probably heard that I like all things Picpoul!
Maison Boutinot tasked their winemaker, Guillaume Letang, to come up with a fresh summer white blend that was unusual but compatible. Guillaume found a pocket of terroir near the town of Pezenas in the Languedoc that was surrounded by red wine vineyards that he felt would be perfect for Picpoul & Roussane. The lightness, freshness, & overall zippy personality of the Picpoul with the texture & complexity of the Roussane created a perfect marriage with this odd couple.
The 50/50 blend pops with wild flower aromas, green fruits, & herbal notes, along with a bright lively acidity. The Al2O3 & the sapphire on the label refers to aluminum oxide which is found in the terroir of the vineyards. Time, heat, & compression of aluminum oxide form sapphires which are found in the region!
