The Begali estate was founded in 1943 by Giordano Begali in the village of Angia in the heart of Valpolicella Classico in Veneto. Inspired by Pindar, one of the most significant lyric poets of Ancient Greece, the Begali family has adopted his quotation as their mantra -- “Wine elevates the soul & thoughts, & anxieties depart from the heart of man.”

Ripasso, or “re-passed” or “ pouring over”, is a technique when Valpolicella wine (a combination of Corvina, Corvinone, & Rondinella grapes)is poured over the tannin rich grape skins & lees left over on racks from making Amarone or Recioto wines. This triggers a second fermentation  giving the wine added body, complexity, & color & kicks up the alcohol a bit. A baby Amarone!

Dark fruit , raisins, & spice along with jammy berry flavors, plum, & chocolate make this vinous & intensely satisfying wine truly a meditative experience!
