A blend of 80% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 5% Carignan, & 5% Mourvèdre from Vacqueyras in the Rhône Valley, France.
Domaine de Griveliere takes its name from the thrushes, or Grive in French, that overpopulate the Côtes du Rhône and devour the grapes in the vineyards when they’re ripe!
The Domaine is located in the Vacqueyras(vah- keh-rahs), a Cru classified appellation in southern Rhone and also the name of the central town, set along the banks of the Ouveze River. The wines from the Vacqueyras are renowned for for their Chateauneuf-du- Pape quality but at a lower price point.
Each varietal is fermented separately in concrete tanks then blended & aged in both concrete and oak for 6 months, then blended together and aged for another 18 months in bottle. The wine is well balanced with aromas of ripe red cherries, spices, and hints of vanilla and earth. The wine is dry with a slightly sweet attack on the palate. The wine has a similar profile to Beaujolais although different grapes are used. The elevated alcohol is integrated nicely into the wine.
Rich, full bodied, and supple!
