100% Trousseau Gris from Sonoma County, California, USA.
Scott and Jenny Schultz, a two person operation in Sebastopol, believe in the beauty of seeing and tasting something that you’ve never experienced before. His winery, Jolie-Laide, translates “pretty-ugly”, a French term of endearment to describe something that is unconventionally beautiful.
Scott and Jenny make some of the most unique and sought after wines in California, using simple winemaking methods-whole clusters, foot crushing, indigenous yeasts, neutral oak, and little to no sulfur added. Their enigmatic Trousseau Gris comes from rare, gnarly vines on the verge of extinction that were planted in the late 1970’s producing a totally unique and intriguing flavor profile.
There’s so much going on here- an intoxicating blend of pomelo, melon, stone fruit, white tea and earthiness with finesses and length. Floral, citrus, and savory notes collide and explode in a wine that certainly will not fit into any conventional category but will definitely surprise and delight!
Scott says "I want to show that different can be good!”. Mission accomplished!
