100% Pinot Noir from the Loire Valley, France.
Andre Crochet & Lucien Picard, after many years of creating their own wine, merged their estates in the 1970’s & began to established relationships with the finest restaurants in Paris. It was not long after that the export market opened for them.
Lucien Crochet & his wife are the current proprietors of the combined estate where 35 hectares are devoted to Pinot Noir & 26 hectares devoted to Sauvignon Blanc. Early on Lucien trained at the University of Dijon & worked at Domaine Dujac in the Morey-Saint-Denis discovering new approaches to growing Pinot Noir.
Today his 40 year old vines sit on top of Sancerre’s famed Kimmeridgian soils creating a unique blend of Sancerre grown Pinot Noir with a Burgundian sensibility. The wine goes through a 25 day maceration & wood aging and then transferred to stainless steel for 21 months.
Cherries fill the palate and are complemented by black tea notes. Woodsy & spicy but with all of the finesse & elegance of great Burgundies, this is a perfect example of the “other” Sancerre!
