A blend of Grenache, Barbera, Counoise, & Mourvèdre with Montepulciano & Vermentino from the Dunnigan Hills in Yolo County, California. Organic.
Steve & Jill Matthiasson founded their estate based in Napa Valley in 2003 with the intention of blending nature with culture in their wines. They set out to prove that rosé can be thoughtful, balanced, elegant, & expressive -- the freshness & minerality of rosé from Provence combined with the innovative vibrancy of California viticulture.
The fruit is grown specifically for their rosé aiming for larger, juicier grapes & planted in vineyards that offer a little more shade. These conditions, along with an early harvest, capture the grapes zesty brightness since they are picked barely past veraison -- the period when grapes change color from green to red.
The wine is comprised of 40% Grenache, 32% Barbera, 15% Mourvèdre, & 13% Counoise giving the wine a salty minerality, big texture & brightness, along with grapefruit, strawberry, & raspberry flavors and a savory edge in the finish.
This is not your typical rosé summer sipper -- Matthiasson rosé is a headliner on many Michelin Star restaurant wine lists!
