50% Hondarribi Beltza and 50% Hondarribi Zuri from Getaria - Basque Country, Spain
The Ameztoi family has been making wine near the fishing village of Getaria on the Biscay Bay in Basque Country since 1918. They were the first to make rose wine from old vine indigenous grapes that they fortunately decided to nuture instead of strip down.
Their slightly effervescent rose is made up from 50% of the white Hondarrabi Zuri grape & 50% of the red Hondarrabi Beltza grape. The red & white grapes are worked together and towards the end of fermentation the tanks are closed to preserve the naturally occurring carbonation. The tanks are kept at near freezing to preserve the delicate character, vibrancy, & complexity.
This wine is all about sunny days & seafood -- sea spray mingles with grapefruit, lime zest, & raspberry flavors!
