85% Mencia, 7% Alicante Bouschet, 8% White grapes, & others from Bierzo, Spain.
Cesar Marquez Perez is looking to create a new interpretation of red wine from the Bierzo region - slightly less extraction & alcohol but retaining all of the qualities and essence of the Bierzo region. Perez selects Mencia (and a bit of Alicante Bouschet and other lesser grapes) from as many as 45 different plots from 9 different villages. Many of the vineyards are around 100 years old.
The wine is fermented by each plot in stainless steel with various maceration times ranging from 15-60 days. After 1 year the juice is then integrated. Round & juicy, medium bodied with fine tannins, the wine is aromatic and floral with spicy touches and fresh red and black fruit notes!
