100% Pinot Noir from Burgundy, France.
Five successive generations have been at the head of this family run estate created in 1890. Situated in Corgoloin on the border of the Cote de Nuits and the Cote de Beaune, the estate today is managed by Damien and Liselotte Gachot.
The recent history of the domaine is highlighted by two women -- Marguerite Monot who ran the vineyard alone from 1950 until 1980 and her daughter Marie Therese, who along with her husband Jean Pierre Gachot, renovated, replanted and gave their name to the estate. Damian was first recognized by the legendary Hospices de Beaune as Burgundy’s young talent to watch!
Damian & his team of winegrowers oversee rigorous pruning and selection of fruit bearing branches and at harvest a team of 40 people select the grapes in the vineyard and then on the sorting table.
The Domaine Gachot-Monot Nuit-Saint-George’s Aux Crots is 100% Pinot Noir from 45 year old vines on the tiny parcel of Aux Crots south of Nuit-Saint-Georges and surrounded by Premier Cru vineyards. This wine is supple & approachable with black cherry and spice notes, mineral underpinning & structure. In the rarified air of affordable Burgundy, this wine stands out for it’s amazing price/quality ratio!
Damien’s ability to balance traditional philosophies in the vineyards with respect to terroir and using contemporary methods in the cellar has elevated his status and the Domaine in this highly regarded wine Mecca!
