100% Gamay from the Morgon cru in Beaujolais, France. Organic.
Jean & Agnes Foillard took over his father’s domaine in 1980 where their 50-60 year old vineyards are planted on the Cote-du-Py, the famed slope outside the town of Villie-Morgan & the pride of Morgan!
Following the example of ground breaking viticultural traditionist Jules Chauvet, Jean & three other bold vignerons – Marcel Lapiene, Jean-Paul Thevenet, & Guy Breton – initiated their back-to-nature approach. Kermit Lynch, renowned negociant, dubbed this group the “Gang of Four” & their name & reputation has stuck ever since! I like to think of them like the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse – but their focus was natural winemaking… not the end of the world… alright – back to the good stuff.
The wine is rustic & spicy with a firm mineral backbone – hallmarks of wine from this region – yet the wine retains the lively & easy drinking spirit of Beaujolais. Silky & smooth with flavors of red fruit, rose petals & wet rocks, the wine is a stellar example of its terroir!
