100% Carignane from Redwood Valley in Mendicino, California, USA. Organic.
Not far down the road from Groth Winery is Frog’s Leap Vineyard, another historic landmark in Napa Valley viticulture. Their new rosé, La Grenouille Rougante means “the blushing frog” although Rougante isn’t even a word. Humor is a big part of this casual but seriously delicious rosé. When asked how long the 100% Carignan is pressed, the winemaker says “for as long as it takes for me to shotgun a beer!”
That’s all the time required to extract enough beautiful color and flavor from Carignan!
Frog’s Leap, another iconic producer of Cabernet Sauvignon, also has a history of exploring heritage varietals from old vines and their rosé is no exception. They've been partners with the Ricetti Family Vineyards in Redwood Valley, a local vineyard going back to 1942. The whole cluster Carignan is harvested from Ricetti Family Vineyards throughout September and pressed immediately to retain freshness and strong acidity.
The wine’s racy acidity and minerality threads through big flavors of cranberries, cherries, and pomegranate!
