Experience The Expressiveness Of Vermont Wines In The Tasting Room @ The Local!
Get ready for an exciting evening with the woman who put Vermont wines on the map!
Join us on Monday, August 14th at 5:30pm for a wine tasting event with Deirdre Heekin, owner and winemaker at La Garagista in Barnard, Vermont. Deirdre, who was recently recognized as one of Food & Wine’s 2023 Drinks Innovators of the Year, will treat our guests to five of her wines, which range from rosé and a red co-fermented field blend to a sparkling wine from La garagista’s co-fermentation cider series. Light refreshments will be served alongside, of course.
Deidre Heekin and her husband Caleb Barber have been growing wine since 2007 when they planted their first vines, and La Garagista winery opened its doors in 2010 with the first vintage.
Deirdre has made a name for herself as a truly an original winemaker, not seeking to mimic what winemakers are doing in other regions of the world but to create wines that celebrate Vermont’s unique agricultural character. She is passionate about wholistic and regenerative agriculture, exploring the botanical diversity of hybrid grapes and their various wine expressions, simple and honest winemaking, and the creative narratives of place.
Deirdre has made Vermont a pioneering region for winemaking, and today, there are several new micro-wineries in the state led by women who have learned from her. She is also the author of three books, the most recent An Unlikely Vineyard, and she’s hard at work on a fourth.
We’re thrilled to host a wine innovator like Deirdre in The Tasting Room at The Local. Tickets go on sale on Friday. Mark your calendars because these tickets are sure to go quickly!
