Dar Richi is another Mercel Wines initiative created by Abdullah Richi who moved to Lebanon to escape the atrocities of the Syrian war. Abdullah was interested in winemaking & through his apprenticeship with winemaker Eddie Chami he developed this red wine which he named after his wife, Hanan. Abdullah’s dream is to eventually go back to Syria & establish his own winery there.

Hanan is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Malbec, & 11% Sangiovese sourced from vineyards near the Mediterranean Sea near Bousit in North Lebanon.

The grapes are whole-cluster harvested in September & de-stemmed into stainless steel tanks & fermented for 10 days. The skins are then racked off- the first of 3 rackings-and then goes through a natural malolactic fermentation.

The wine showcases the potential of international varietals & the expertise of its producers in this viticulturally diverse & ancient frontier!
