50% Hamdani & 50% Jandali from the Shaffa Valley, Between Hebron and Bethlehem, Palestine.
In 1863 a young Italian missionary priest, Father Antonio Belloni, opened two orphanages in Bethlehem & years later Cremisan House was founded as a religious education center for the orphans. A small winery was built to support the project & give orphans an opportunity to develop skill sets to enable them to strike out on their own.
Today Cremisan Winery is one of Israel’s premier wine producers.
The wine is made up of two indigenous varietals -- Hamdani (50%) & Jandali (50%) –- sourced from vineyards between Hebron & Bethlehem. Hand picked in mid-September, the grapes are destemmed & soft pressed into stainless steel tanks, fermented with carefully chosen yeast & left to age for 4-6 months. The juice is filtered twice before bottling.
The wine has a delicate body with lively acidity & minerality. Flavors of mango, guava, papaya, & fresh flowers commingle with a pronounced note of Dead Sea salinity.
