"In 2014, we began holding back certain fermentations where we noticed a unique flor developing on the surface of the wines. When Camila Carrillo came to work with us in 2018, her interest in sherry and all-things oxidative lead us into a collaborative fermentation project loosely called Lost Causes and Desperate Cases that focused on different historical techniques for making oxidative wines in the spirit of sherry, rancio sec, and madeira. Flora is a solera that goes back to 2015, 100% Frontenac Gris from the Vergennes vineyard, biologically aged under flor for many years in glass demijohns and for the last 2 years aged in 100-year-old American oak Amontillado barrel from Jerez. These are special wines that draw the connection and tell a story shared between a hot climate and a cool climate, flip-sides of the same coin."
