90% Narello Mascalese & 10% Indigenous Varieties from Sicily, Italy. Organic.
Winemaker Carmelo Vecchio and his wife Rosa both grew up in the vineyards around the northern slope of Mount Etna. Sciare is the name given to the solidified “scars” of the lava flows throughout the area. They started producing wine on 1 hectare of vineyards that has vines as old as 130 years! They are literally hands on with their sustainable farming and their micro vinification happens in the cellar of their home.
The wine is composed of 90% Nerello Mascalese and 10% other indigenous varieties on slopes at 2000 feet elevation. The wine goes through a 12 day skin maceration. After pressing, the juice goes through a malolactic fermentation in oak and then 6 months of aging on the lees.
Volcanic grip and raw energy course through this brawny blend. The wine hovers around 14% ABV and bursts with raspberries, cracked pepper, vanilla, and earthy flavors.
