100% Gewurztraminer from Atlàntida (Canelones), Uruguay.
100% Gewurztraminer from Uruguay? It turns out that Uruguay’s soil & Atlantic maritime climate is perfectly suited for Gewurztraminer and late harvest and botrytized wines have been produced here for years.
Pablo Fallbrino is the current owner and winemaker of the bodega that was started by his grandfather Angelo, who immigrated to Uruguay in 1920 from the Piedmonte in Italy & planted five vineyards and started two wineries in the 1930’s.
Angelo planted mostly Piedmonte varietals & Tannat, which has become Uruguay’s premier red wine grape. Today Pablo adds an orange interpretation to his portfolio -- fermented in stainless steel tanks with the skins for 1 week. The wine is racked & aged for 4 weeks in stainless steel.
This wine bursts with tropical fruits, peach notes, & citrus with a pleasant floral finish. The label is inspired from the winery calendar for the 1985 vintage!
