It’s a savory evening of cheese & wine in The Tasting Room @ The Local!
The evening will feature four wonderful cheeses from Von Trapp Farmstead. Molly Semler, the co-owner & head cheesemaker at Von Trapp Farmstead & Rachel Wylie, also of Von Trapp Farmstead, are so excited to talk to you all about the farm, the cheese, and how it all comes together. The Local’s own Sarah Nagle will serve four wines perfectly paired with each course & chat about the qualities that she looks for when pairing wine with cheese.
Molly has been making cheese for over 10 years. She dreamed of making cheese long before that & was made fun of for fantasizing about it as she held down other jobs in Wilderness Therapy & Women's Health. Eventually her obsession led her back to her home state of Vermont where she tried some delicious cheese at a Farmers Market & begged for a job. She dove head first into the craft of cheesemaking, spending as much time as others would let her in their cheesehouses. Although she wondered if the passion for cheese would diminish when it became her full time job, IT DID NOT! Today you'll find her making cheese, thinking about cheese, talking about cheese, or eating cheese among all of the other duties & joys of being a mother & small business owner.
Rachel Wylie wears many hats at von Trapp Farmstead, including Sales, Marketing, and Farm Store Manager. Rachel's varied life experience includes a perfect mish-mash of farming, small food business management, community development, graphic design, event coordination, non-profit work, and working in production kitchens. It was only when she got to von Trapp Farmstead that she realized all those seemingly unrelated skills are all exactly what's needed to make a micro family farm work! When she isn't working on the farmstead, she can be found hiking, weaving, volunteering with a local food justice organization ShareMRV, and generally enjoying this beautiful state!
Sarah Nagle has worked in the wine industry for years, and she’s passionate about sharing her knowledge & helping customers find their new favorite bottle. If you’ve ever been to one of our free weekly tastings, you know what we’re talking about. If you haven’t met Sarah yet, you’re in for a treat!
