100% Gamay from Beaujolais, France. Biodynamic.
If you think of Beaujolais as light, fruity, and easy to drink Domaine Des Bruyeres is a stunning example of Gamay’s potential. Beaujolais wines with greater dimension and complexity are the Beaujolais Crus, 10 smaller areas in the north of Beaujolais where the wines take their appellation name and reflect their terroir. The smallest and least known are the wines from Chenas.
Family-owned and passed down from father to son, Nicolas Durand and his wife Sandrine now handle all operations, from harvest to vinification to marketing. The domaine’s vines average 40 years of age. Cultivation of the vines is undertaken with respect to the environment to achieve the full expression of Gamay and it’s terroir.
This is a textbook example of Cru Beaujolais- defined by it’s minerality attributed to the area’s granite soils, the stoney quality melds with black cherry, cranberry, and raspberry flavors and is punctuated with crisp acidity and fine tannins!
