50% Grenache, 30% Cinsault, & 20% Mourvèdre from Cassis, France.
Not to be confused with its more high profile and bigger-production neighbor appellation in Bandol, Bagnol is located in the charming fishing town of Cassis which is surrounded by vineyards that were first planted in the 12th century. Not to be outdone by its prestigious neighbor’s reputation, Domaine Du Bagnol crafts rose that has power and structure.
This rose is not your typical easy going and quaffable pink pounder - winemaker Sebastien Genovesi direct presses a blend of 50% Grenache, 30% Cinsault, and 20% Mourvèdre in under 2 hours to extract as little color as possible. Given the deceptive pale pinkish hue, the wine is complex and polished with an herbaceous edginess, tart red fruit flavors, and an oyster-like salinity. There’s an elevated crisp acidity that courses through the wine from start to long finish!
