100% Barbera from Primorska, Slovenia. Organic.
Practicing organic, hand harvested and naturally fermented with indigenous yeasts.
Pikasi is located in the Vipava Valley, Slovenia which is right on the border of Italy, just north of the Italian port city of Trieste. The Alpine climate collides with the more moderate Mediterranean climate of the Adriatic on the mineral rich steep mountain slopes where the Barbera is sourced.
The grapes are hand picked, de-stemmed, & macerate for seven days in open vats for spontaneous fermentation. The juice is put in neutral oak for 12 months, then transferred to stainless steel for aging on the lees for 6-11 months and two months in the bottle before being released.
The whole process is well worth it -- the wine is youthful but has great depth and expression. Rich aromas of cherry, raspberry, blackberry, and a touch of white pepper & fennel course through the palate!
