A white blend of Pinot Blanc, Muscat, Chasselas, & Riesling from the Alsace, France.
Felix Meyer is a rising star in Alsace given the family’s emphasis on tradition & respect for terroir. Meyer is a master at the art of blending & astutely applies his skills in mixing wine from various locations into complex & balanced cuvées. All of his wines are characterized by stunning aromatics & signature backbone of minerality.
Edelzwicker is German for “noble blending” & falls under the “vins de Alsace” designation where the wine can be blended with white Alsatian grapes without any indication of percentage ratios. The grapes are allowed to be vinified separately or together & the vintage on its label is optional. This free-for-all wine is a blend of the standard white grapes of the Alsace – Riesling, Muscat, Pinot Gris, Gewurtztraminer, Sylvaner, & Pinot Blanc. There are countless blending possibilities so it’s difficult to narrow down the flavor profile of wines of this type but Felix Meyer’s wine has a crisp acidity & nuttiness (Riesling) along with pear & green apple notes (Pinot Blanc), a floral & perfumed nose (Muscat), & a spicy & herbaceous edge (Gewurtztraminer). Not your typical summer quaffer but if you have a curiosity streak, this wine will certainly scratch that itch!
