30% Sylvaner, 30% Pinot Blanc, 20% Riesling, 10% Muscat, 5% Pinot Gris, & 5% Gewurztraminer Alsace, France. Organic.
Established by the Kuentz family in 1795 & forged through a marriage that joined the Kuentz & Bas families in 1895, the family sold their estate to famed winemaker Jean-Baptiste Adam in 2004. He is the 14th generation in his family to continue the winemaking tradition that began as early as 1614. The winery & its 10 hectares are nestled in the town of Husseren-Les-Chateaux, one of the highest points in Alsace.
Lively on the palate with great peach aromatics & popping minerality, the wine is light to medium in body with a touch of petrol that shows up in Reisling (about 20%). The other varietals make this a primer on Alsatian white grapes -- 30% Sylvaner, 30% Pinot Blanc, 20% Riesling, 10% Muscat, 5% Pinot Gris, & 5% Gewurtztraminer. Whew!
