5th Quarter Returns for Oktoberfest in The Tasting Room!

Oktoberfest is coming up, and we can’t think of anyone better to partner with in marking this annual festival than Josh Turka of the 5th Quarter. Josh hosted a charcuterie event at The Local back in May & presented an amazing meal that some of our guests were calling “genius.” But we must say, from the looks of his upcoming Oktoberfest menu, he’s really taking it up a notch.

Our guests will start off with a charcuterie board featuring 5th Quarter meats, Vermont cheeses, and Good Chase Design pretzels. Then, Josh will take guests on a journey from duck liver mousse with duck breast to Alpine style cured and smoked pork to wursts with sauerkraut. It is going to be epic! The Local’s own Sarah Nagle will be presenting German, Austrian, and Alsatian wine pairings, and guests will learn about the qualities in these wines that bring out the best in Josh’s dishes.

Josh specializes in whole animal butchery and charcuterie and owns the 5th Quarter Butcher Shop at the Mad River Taste Place in Waitsfield. He works exclusively with Vermont farmers and his shop has quickly become the Valley’s destination for Vermont-raised meats, house made sausage, and more. Before moving to Vermont, Josh worked for more than ten years in Boston area restaurants and butcheries.

Sarah has worked in the wine industry for years, and she’s passionate about sharing her knowledge and helping customers find their new favorite bottle. If you’ve ever been to one of our free weekly wine tastings, you know what we’re talking about. If you haven’t met Sarah yet, you’re in for a treat.
