"Chaga and rose pedal. The rose was always very subtle. I imagine at this point, given the age of the beer, it has faded. Chaga tea comes off as a very textured black tea. I imagine that is still in tact. The theme for the beer comes from the art and stoic concept of humility in the context of death’s inevitability. A reminder against hubris. This was in part a response to the materials themselves. Roses are a symbol of the ephemeral joy of life. There are innumerable references in art to the bloom and blast of life as embodied by a rose. Chaga also reminds me of this. It is a mushroom that grows on a damaged portion of birch trees. In appearance, it has a black cracked surface and looks as if, on an otherwise healthy tree, a burnt and broken limb or growth. To me, it serves as a reminder that, even in health, there is the inevitable and cruel consequences of living.
